Under 6 years

If your child is under 6 years

You do not need a formal diagnosis to apply for access to the NDIS

If your child is under 6 years of age, you do not need a formal diagnosis to apply for the National Disability Insurance Agency’s Early Childhood
Approach.

You do not need to wait for a paediatrician appointment or confirmed diagnosis to apply for access.

If accepted to the Early Childhood Approach you may receive NDIS funding that can be used towards early supports such as occupational therapy and speech pathology.

This funding can be used with private allied health providers which can help your child access the supports they need with little wait time.

NDIS Early Childhood Approach

The NDIS Early Childhood Approach (ECA) aims to provide young children with a developmental delay or disability with the supports they need as early as possible.

The Early Childhood Approach (ECA) program supports children under six who have a developmental delay or under nine with a permanent disability.

In the case of developmental delay, you need to be on the program before your child turns 6.  You can read more about the early childhood approach and determining a developmental delay here.

Many of the practitioners are working in this area due to their lived experiences with their own children or siblings. They are OUR people.

So as overwhelming and scary as the NDIS may sound – you are dealing with amazingly dedicated and passionate Western Australians who want to help you ensure your child reaches their potential.
