UWA’s MiniGym, UniGym and iFit programs provide tailored exercise interventions designed to:
Build fundamental movement skills
Increase confidence and enjoyment of physical activity
Support participation in community sport and recreation
Encourage social connection with peers facing similar challenges
Programs are delivered by a mix of trained university students, graduates and Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs), all of whom receive extensive training and are closely supervised by highly experienced paediatric exercise professionals.
Who can participate?
Participation is open to any child who:
Has difficulty learning or performing movement skills at an age-appropriate level
Lacks confidence or skills to participate in physical activity with peers
Wants to participate in community sport but needs additional support
Would benefit from socialising with children facing similar challenges
🏃♀️ Our programs
MiniGym & MiniGymX (ages 3–7)
MiniGym is a fun, play-based movement education program designed to equip parents to actively engage in teaching movement skills with their child.
MiniGym (3–4 years)
When: Saturday mornings, 8:45am
Session length: 45 minutes
Dates: School terms
Location: School of Sport Science, UWA
Cost: $30 per session ($270 per 9-week term)
Teachers: Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) with parent participation
MiniGymX (5–7 years)
When: Saturday mornings, 9:40am or 10:35am
Session length: 55 minutes
Dates: School terms
Location: School of Sport Science, UWA
Cost: $35 per session ($315 per 9-week term)
Teachers: Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)
UniGym (ages 5½–8)
UniGym supports children who have difficulty learning and performing fundamental movement skills at an age-appropriate level.
This program is designed for children with motor learning challenges, including (but not limited to):
Delivered by trained 3rd year Sport Science, Exercise & Health students, supervised by academic and program staff

Ages: 5½ – 8 years
When: After school (4:30–6:00pm)
Dates: Two 9-week semesters per year (starting March & August)
Cost: $30 per session ($270 per 9-week program)
iFit (ages 9–16)
A goal-based, individualised fitness program
iFit is designed to support 9–15 year olds (up to 16 years) to build the fitness, strength and skills needed to engage in community sport or physical recreation.
Children work one-on-one with their trainer, focusing on:
Fitness and strength
Sport-specific skills
Confidence and strategies for participation
Gradual integration into community-based activities
Sessions are delivered by Masters-level Clinical Exercise Physiology students, supervised by experienced academic and program staff.
Key details – iFit
Ages: 9–16 years
Structure: 1-on-1, 1.5-hour sessions
When: After school (4:30–6:00pm)
Dates: Two 9-week semesters per year (starting March & August)
Cost: $25 per session ($225 per 9-week program)
How do I get started?
To get started, families are asked to complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
The form takes approximately 15 minutes
It helps the team understand your child’s needs and match them to the right program
No assessment is required for MiniGym or MiniGymX
