About

Kristy Casella is an experienced and compassionate Occupational Therapist who brings nearly two decades of expertise in helping children and families thrive. With 16 years of service at WA Health Department's Child Development Services in West Perth and 4 years in a private clinic, Kristy’s passion lies in supporting children and adolescents to feel confident, included, and engaged in their home, school and community environments.

Her approach is neuroaffirming, recognizing the uniqueness of each child’s neurological makeup. With a strengths-based focus, Kristy works to empower both children and their families, providing them with the tools and strategies needed to confidently navigate developmental challenges.

Kristy provides therapy for children aged 1-12 years, working on goals that reflect the needs of both the child and their family. Using a coaching model, Kristy collaborates with parents, encouraging them to utilize their expertise in supporting their child's development. She also works closely with other health professionals and school staff to ensure a holistic approach to interventions. Kristy has established a strong network of paediatric health colleagues in Perth, enabling her to offer referrals and additional support when necessary.

One of her most recent endeavours in 2025 is a project with Curtin University, where she will supervise five 4th-year Occupational Therapy students on an exciting project titled "Creating Neuroinclusive Sensory Smart Classrooms." This initiative aims to develop a program that promotes inclusion and supports for students with diverse learning styles and neurological differences, helping to foster greater understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity within the school environment.

Kristy offers support in several key areas:

  • Assessment:
    • Developmental Delays in early years
    • Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) (movement and coordination delays)
    • Motor-based Dysgraphia (persistent handwriting difficulties)
    • Sensory Processing challenges

  • Intervention:
    • Motor Coordination Skills (fine and gross motor skills, such as handwriting, cutting, jumping, balance, etc.)
    • Self-Care Skills (dressing, using cutlery, toileting, tooth brushing)
    • Play and Learning (supporting developmental play and learning opportunities)
    • Sensory Processing (helping with self-regulation, addressing sensitivities and seeking behaviors, improving attention and concentration)

Kristy provides her services within the Perth metropolitan area (mobile), and she also offers Telehealth consultations to children in rural and remote areas. Referrals are accepted from parents, teachers, GPs, and other health professionals. Kristy is registered with AHPRA, and Medicare rebates are available for those with a Chronic Disease Management Plan. She also welcomes NDIS self- and plan-managed clients.

Kristy looks forward to joining your child's developmental journey, offering support, guidance, and expertise every step of the way. She is dedicated to helping your child thrive and navigate challenges with confidence, empowering both you and your child to achieve your goals.
