Mobile occupational therapy for 2-17 years

About

Carmen is a paediatric occupational therapist, with over 14 years of experience exclusively in disability, working with children and their families. She is passionate about delivering quality, child led therapy within a neurodiversity affirming framework.

Carmen is based in Perth, Western Australia. She provides mobile occupational therapy services (to support generalisation and maintenance of skills learned in usual environment) for children ages 0-17 years living across the Perth metropolitan area, as well as telehealth support for families living in rural and remote areas.

Carmen recognises the unique challenges that your child faces and that you face with your child's challenges. She understands and appreciates that you and your child may both be able to respond best when feeling comfortable and relaxed. Having occupational therapy sessions in your home, at the childcare, school or another relevant community setting, can support this.

If your child is having difficulties in the following developmental areas, then Carmen can support you:

Occupational Therapy skills:

·         Emotional regulation (managing emotions)

·         Fine motor skill development (including drawing, handwriting, cutting, typing)

·         Gross motor skill development (jumping, hoping, throwing, catching and kicking, etc)

·         Friendship skills (turn taking, sharing, making and keeping friendships)

·         Self-care and daily activities, including sleep, toileting, and mealtimes

·         School readiness skills

·         Access and participation to their environment (for example, climbing, riding a bike, access to playground equipment)

Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)

Mustard Seed Occupational Therapy also provides Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA). A FCA is an assessment of a person’s functional performance of activities in their home and community. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive assessment of a person’s needs and goals. This includes identifying their level of independence and the level of assistance.

Length & Frequency

The length and frequency of the sessions will be discussed with you at the completion of the initial session, and will consider your child and your family, and the goals you would like to work on. They can be an hour, forty-five minutes or thirty minutes; and they may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

The sessions are flexible and can change with the needs of your child, and with your needs as you support your child.
