Ahmed graduated from Alexandria medical school in 2001. He obtained qualifications in general adult psychiatry in 3 countries: Egypt 2006, Qatar 2007, and Australia 2015. A multicultural and travelled life shaped his clinical approach and a humbled appreciation of the human condition.

Ahmed completed advanced training with the RANZCP Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2017 in NSW. He attained the RANZCP Advanced Certificate in Psychotherapy in 2023 in WA. Ahmed is a candidate trainee with QPPA (Queensland Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association). He is experienced in other manualised and exploratory modalities of psychotherapy including CBT, DBT, MBT, ACT and Family Therapy.

Ahmed held several leadership and consultancy roles in public health in Northern NSW and in Perth Metropolitan from 2015 to 2022. He served as head of service of a community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Perth. Most recently Ahmed worked as a clinical lead for a Youth Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Service in SMHS.

Ahmed’s clinical and academic experience across the lifespan equips him with a developmental perspective. He complements this experience with specialized training in autism spectrum disorder assessment at Mindful, the Centre for Training and Research in Developmental Health in Victoria. Ahmed is trained in standardized ASD diagnostic instruments, including ADOS and 3di.

His psychosocial orientation involves exploring how social systems and unconscious assumptions influence everyone’s mental health. Ahmed has an interest in pharmacogenomic and nutritional psychiatry as precursors to precision medicine in psychiatry.

Ahmed started to consult part time in private in 2019, developed the Lighthouse Clinic and transitioned into full time private practice in 2023. He provides a collaborative, warm, and understanding approach within an evidence-based framework of psychiatry and psychotherapy.
